BMW X5 – a mid-size crossover from the German automaker BMW. The car was unveiled at the 1999 Detroit Auto Show. The letter “X” means that the car has four-wheel drive, and the number “5” – that served as the base 5-Series (BMW E39), but shorter than the X5 E39, but taller and wider. Body E53 resembles a BMW E46 Touring. The machine is fit to ride on all types of road surface, it owes this high ground clearance and permanent all-wheel drive.
BMW X5 E53 was developed at a time when the BMW Group already owned brand Land Rover and as such it has a lot of common components and design with a Range Rover L322, in particular the system Hill Descent and Off Road, as well as engine and electronic systems of BMW E39
