In the third (1983) generation Civic has become more solid, its base has grown by 125 mm, four-door version closer in size to the more expensive Accord.
In the basic version the car was equipped with a 60-horsepower 1.3-liter engine and 4 or 5-speed manual gearbox or 3-speed automatic gearbox. A new 1.5-litre 12-valve 76 HP engine was also offered.
The conceptual model of the third generation of the Civic model, as its ancestors, carried a clear and true idea:”maximum space for people, minimum – for mechanisms”.
In a sense, since the third generation, Civic has acquired characteristic features of appearance, recognizable in all subsequent “rebirth” of the model. This is a fairly low, flattened to the ground silhouette, narrowed headlights, a thin line of false radiator grille. Civic has become recognizable, moreover, 1984 in Europe won the award “Torino-Piedmonte Car Design Award”. In the New World, thanks to the new engine and “formula” technologies, the car was awarded the honorary title of the most environmentally friendly car in America, according to the Association Environmental Protection Agency.
