DeLorean DMC-12-sports car, which was produced in Northern Ireland for the American automobile company DeLorean Motor Company from 1981 to 1983. In 2009, the machine was produced under the order and recovered by the company DMC Texas.
The more common name was “DeLorean”, as it was the only model produced by the company. In DMC-12 doors of the “gull wing”type were used. The first prototype of the DeLorean Safety Vehicle (DSV) appeared in March 1977, and production began in 1981 (the first DMC-12 rolled off the Assembly line on January 21 at the DMC factory in Dunmurry in Northern Ireland). During its production, several parts of the car were changed (hood, wheels and interior). Until the end of production in 1983, it was made about nine thousand copies of DMC-12, of which about eight thousand survived to this day.
A distinctive feature of the machine was a frame body made of composite, pasted on the outside with sheets of unpainted stainless steel 1 mm thick, which made DeLorean resistant to corrosion and acquired a specific shade of the body. For the car was developed creative design as a time machine in the film trilogy of Robert Zemeckis “Back to the future.”
DMC-12 were primarily aimed at the American market, so the machines were equipped with left-hand drive at the plant. Only a few right-hand copies of the DeLorean have been released for use in the UK.
